Eagles activate Mathis, put Herremans on IR

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Philadelphia Eagles will get one of
their starting offensive linemen back for Monday’s game against the Carolina
Panthers, but won’t have another for the remainder of the season.

On the same day the team took All-Pro guard Evan Mathis off the injured
reserve/designated to return list, the Eagles placed veteran guard Todd
Herremans on IR due to a reported torn biceps.

Mathis sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee in the season
opener and has missed Philadelphia’s last seven games with the injury. The
2013 Pro Bowl selection was first eligible to be activated this week.

Herremans, the Eagles’ longest tenured player who has made 124 starts over his
10 seasons with the organization, sustained his injury in the Eagles’ Week 8
loss at Arizona. He still managed to start at right guard in Sunday’s 31-21
win at Houston but wasn’t able to finish the game.

Either Matt Tobin, who has started five straight games at left guard in place
of Mathis, or Andrew Gardner will take over for Herremans.
