Haas surges into lead at Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – Jay Haas cruised into the lead after
firing a second-round, 8-under 62 on Friday and he heads into the weekend with
a 4-shot lead at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

Haas, who shot a 60 in 2012 to set the course record on the Conchise Course at
the Desert Mountain Club, finished 36 holes at 12-under-par 128 and he is four
shots up on first-round leader Tom Pernice, Jr.

Pernice, beginning the day one shot ahead of Haas and three others, shot a 3-
under 67 and he is alone in second at 8-under 132. Kenny Perry is in third
place at 6-under 134 following a 2-under 68.

Defending champion Fred Couples had a strong day as well as he carded a 6-
under 64 and he is tied for fourth at 5-under 135. He is joined there by
Michael Allen (66) and Olin Browne (67).

Beginning the day tied for second place, Bernhard Langer, who has already
wrapped up the season-long Charles Schwab Cup and the money title, shot an
even-par 70 and he is now tied for seventh with Marco Dawson (67), Gene Sauers
(68), Wes Short, Jr. (67) and Joe Durant (70).
