Bucharest, Romania (SportsNetwork.com) – World No. 4 star Simona Halep has
split with her coach, Wim Fissette.
“My collaboration with Wim Fissette will come to an end, following a mutual
agreement,” said the 23-year-old Romanian.
“It was a good and beautiful year. I want to thank him and wish him good luck
in the future.”
The announcement comes a week after Halep lost to world No. 1 Serena Williams
in the WTA Finals championship match in Singapore.
Halep started working with the Belgian Fissette, who previously coached former
world No. 1 Kim Clijsters and former Wimbledon runner-up Sabine Lisicki, in
January after splitting with coach Adrian Marcu.
Halep has tallied eight WTA titles over the last two years. This year
she became the highest-ranked Romanian in WTA history, at No. 2 in the
world, after reaching the French Open final and capturing titles in Doha and
Bucharest.
