Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Main Sequence, ridden by John Velazquez,
rallied down the stretch to capture Saturday’s $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf
at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Graham Motion, 6-1 third choice Main Sequence came from off the
pace in the 1 1/2-mile grass race to take the lead in mid-stretch and held off
3-1 second pick Flintshire to win by a neck.
Getting third was 19-1 longshot Twilight Eclipse with 8-5 favorite Telescope
fourth in the 12-horse field. Magician, last year’s winner, was an early

Owned by Flaxman Holdings, Main Sequence won his fourth straight start since
coming to the United States from Europe this year. The Turf victory was worth
$1.65 million to bring the 5-year-old gelding’s bankroll to $3.3 million. He
has eight wins in 18 career starts.
Main Sequence won this year’s United Nations, Sword Dancer and Turf Classic
Invitational. Velazquez was substituting for the injured Rajiv Maragh. The
Hall of Fame jockey previously won the Turf with English Channel in 2007.
Main Sequence returned $14.40, $5.80 and $4.20. Flintshire paid $4.80 and
$3.60, and Twilight Eclipse paid $6.40 to show.
