Nebraska’s Abdullah suffers “mild” knee sprain in win

Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) – Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah
suffered a left knee injury in Saturday’s 35-14 win over Purdue.

Cornhuskers head coach Bo Pelini called it a “mild” sprain, adding Abdullah
has a bruise, but is optimistic he will be ready to play in the team’s next
game on Nov. 15 at Wisconsin.

The Heisman Trophy candidate was hurt in the first quarter while diving to
recover a fourth-down fumble by quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. at the Purdue
2-yard line.

Abdullah returned with a brace over his knee and rushed once more for a 5-yard
loss before departing again for good.

“We were going to be cautious with him. We were going to do everything we
needed to do to make sure we were doing the right thing by Ameer,” Pelini
added. “He already had an MRI and we feel good about where he is.”

Abdullah entered the weekend the nation’s leading rusher with 1,249 yards.
