Oilers top Rangers

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Viktor Fasth stopped 20 shots to help the
Edmonton Oilers to a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Benoit Pouliot each posted a goal and an assist for
the Oilers, who have won two straight after dropping four in a row. Teddy
Purcell added an empty-net goal in the win.

“Two back-to-back wins is huge for us on the road trip here,” said Nugent-
Hopkins.

Carl Hagelin scored the only goal of the game for the Rangers, who have lost
four of their last five. Henrik Lundqvist allowed two goals on 32 shots in the
loss.

“The effort through the game was unacceptable,” Rangers defenseman Marc Staal
said. “We need to turn this thing around and play some better hockey.”

The Oilers took a 1-0 lead just 3:19 into the game, as a quick pass from
Pouliot from the right side to the front of the net was tapped in by Nugent-
Hopkins.

New York tied the contest with 7:26 to play in the opening stanza, as Hagelin
threw a shot on net from the right circle that hit off an Edmonton stick and
went in.

The only goal of the second period went to Edmonton, as Nugent-Hopkins skated
in down the right wing and pulled up along the boards before sending a short
pass to Pouliot, who snapped in a low wrister for his second of the season at
8:29.

New York pulled Lundqvist inside of two minutes to play, but Purcell sealed
the victory with his empty-net goal.
