Orioles decline part of option on Markakis’ contract

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) – The Baltimore Orioles announced Friday
that the club has declined their portion of the mutual option on the contract
of right fielder Nick Markakis.

“Nick is a dependable player and the O’s would like to continue [their]
relationship with him,” said Orioles GM Dan Duquette.

Markakis finished the 2014 season with a .276 average, .342 on-base
percentage, 14 home runs, 27 doubles and 50 RBI in 155 games.

A nine-year veteran, all with the Orioles franchise, the 30-year-old native of
Long Island has compiled a .290 average along with 141 homers, 316 doubles and
658 RBI in 1,365 appearances since 2006.

Earlier in the day, the O’s claimed left-handed reliever Patrick McCoy off
waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
