Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) – Oribe Peralta scored a pair of
goals, including the equalizer in the 89th minute as America claimed a 2-2
draw at Toluca on Sunday in a battle of the top two sides in Liga MX.
Peralta opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he ran on to a through ball
from Rubens Sambueza and got into the area on the right, where he managed to
elude goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera and score from a tight angle.
Pablo Velazquez had Toluca back on level terms nine minutes later, however, as
he drew a foul inside the penalty area on America’s Osmar Mares and picked
himself to score on the subsequent spot kick.
Toluca grabbed the lead in the 64th when Velazquez was on hand to fire home
the ball from close range, but Peralta came to the rescue for the league
leaders as he scored from the middle of the area following a corner kick from
Pablo Aguilar.
The result keeps America two points clear of Toluca at the top of the league,
while both Tigres and Atlas failed to take advantage of the result.
Both teams remain one point back of Toluca as they too were held to draws over
the weekend, with Tigres playing to a 0-0 stalemate at Guadalajara and Atlas
finishing 1-1 with Tijuana after getting an 81st-minute equalizer from Martin
Barragan.
Jaguares secured a valuable 2-1 win at Monterrey to climb into fifth place as
Emiliano Armenteros netted the equalizer in the 58th before Bruno Pires fired
home the winner in stoppage time.
Goals from Dionicio Moreno and Camilo helped Queretaro to a 2-0 win over
Morelia, Santos topped Pachuca, 2-1, as Andres Renteria found the net in the
76th minute for Santos to separate the two sides, UNAM doubled up on Cruz
Azul, 2-0, a goal from Fidel Martinez in the 59th minute was the difference as
Leones Negros edged Veracruz, 1-0, while Leon and Puebla battled to a 0-0
draw.
