Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – Forward Stephen Weiss will remain out of the
Detroit Red Wings’ lineup for at least another week after suffering a groin
injury during a minor league conditioning assignment.
Weiss exited Wednesday’s contest for Grand Rapids of the American Hockey
League after two periods and was subsequently placed on injured reserve by the
Red Wings on Friday.
The 31-year-old played in just 26 games last season, the first of a five-year,
$24.5 million contract Weiss signed with Detroit during the summer of 2013,
before undergoing hernia surgery in December.
Weiss has dressed for only one game for the Red Wings this season but was
expected to play in the team’s road trip that begins Sunday in Buffalo.
