Verona, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) – Luca Toni converted a second-half penalty
kick to help Hellas Verona earn a point in a 1-1 draw against 10-man Lazio on
Thursday at the Stadio M.A. Bentegodi.
It was a physical affair from the outset as yellow cards were shown to both
sides inside the first 30 minutes of play and it was the visiting side that
struck first when Bosnia international Senad Lulic fired home his second goal
of the season in the 42nd minute.
Despite taking the lead into the second half, things went south for Lazio when
Luis Pedro Cavanda was shown a yellow card in the 50th minute followed by a
second yellow and a sending off 18 minutes later, reducing the visiting side
to 10 men.
Following the red card, Toni stepped to the spot and buried his second goal of
the season to put the sides back on level terms.
The result lifts Lazio into third place in Serie A with 16 points from nine
matches, while Hellas improves to 11th place in the table with 12 points from
